What do you geek? We want to know! Lannom Library kicked off its Geek the Library campaign in February, and is continuing it through July of 2014! For those who may not know, Geek the Library is a public awareness campaign brought to us FREE OF CHARGE my the OCLC and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Throughout the campaign, we have been using “geek” as a verb… Here’s what we mean.
- To love, to enjoy, to celebrate, to have an intense passion for.
- To express interest in.
- To possess a large amount of knowledge in.
- To promote.
Whatever you Geek, Lannom Library supports you!
Public libraries inspire and empower. Everyone is welcome. Almost anything can be explored. And they play an important role for individuals and for communities.
By asking our patrons and community leaders what they geek, we have been able to engage with our local population in great conversations where we have learned from each other and exchanged amazing ideas!
We have many exciting community events planned for the summer incorporating Geek the Library, and are looking forward to having a great time in our vibrant community! Before we get into our summer of geeking, we thought we’d take a look back at our past geek events, and remember the good times we had. Beginning with our kick-off event, and including a Community leader reception, Dr. Seuss Party, Valentine Party, Kentucky Derby event, and more–we have had a BALL geeking with our wonderful patrons! Thank you for always making our events such a success!
So, Geek your geek on with us in our Geek the library rewind!
